‘US Republican leaders demand information on BPA intervention’
Andorra’s most-read news outlet that the US Congress has expressed interest in launching an investigation into Andorragate, in particular, FinCEN’s role in the takeover and dissolution of BPA:
US Republican leaders demand information on BPA intervention
The congressmen are evaluating the functioning of the US administration and are concerned about FinCEN's decisions that affected Andorra.
Republican leaders of the United States have reactivated the claim for data and information from the American administration regarding the intervention of said administration and especially of FinCEN with the 'notice' on Banca Privada d'Andorra (BPA) in relation, precisely, to the facts that led to the disappearance of a bank in the Principality and the supposed anomalies that would have been there in all of it.
Republican interest has been piqued after BPA's former owners renewed their efforts to make it clear that US authorities were overreached or allegedly misled. Certain Andorran media republished last week "historical and false accusations, in which it was stated that the Cierco family gave money to the American lobbyist Paul Manafort" with the aim of influencing the Trump administration to investigate the BPA case in 2016.
The family confirms that it has never hired Manafort for any lobbying activities. The Cierco family has been working with Washington, DC-based Mercury Public Affairs LLC as part of their ongoing efforts to prove that Andorran authorities acted illegally and used FinCEN to take down BPA of the market in 2015.
As a result of these efforts, the family has recently been informed that new Republican leaders in Congress have been briefed and have expressed interest in learning more about US intervention in the BPA issue. The Ciercos understand that Andorra's ambassador to the US and permanent representative to the United Nations, Elisenda Vives Balmaña, has also been informed of these events.
