One of Andorra’s most important media publications mentions Andorragate.com
In Andorra, freedom of information and expression is strongly restricted as highlighted by an investigation by the international NGO, Reporters Without Borders. Therefore, the emergence of a new website that exposes the corruption behind the closure and liquidation of Banca Privada d'Andorra (BPA) is a critical step for Andorran freedoms and independence. Andorragate.com has been active since this summer, sharing background and current news updates on the coordinated effort by Andorran authorities and the Spanish government to liquidate BPA, achieved when the American institution FinCen intervened in March 2015.
Andorragate.com makes its stance on the issue very clear by underlining that an illegal defamation campaign coordinated by Andorran and Spanish authorities led to the closure of BPA. Since then, investors have unfairly lost millions of money.
Most, if not all Andorran media have tiptoed over this scandal, only carrying out smear campaigns against BPA’s former managers and ignoring the fact that all other Andorran financial institutions took part in the same activities that the BPA was accused of. For that reason, the existence of Andorragate.com is an absolute necessity and a vital counterpoint to produce a more complete vision of the “scandal”. The website also points out that no convictions have been made for money laundering concerning BPA, FinCen withdrew its accusation of money laundering and BPA's managers were cleared of any wrongdoing by the Spanish courts. Andorragate.com serves an important role in giving Andorrans a more accurate description of the “affair” surrounding BPA’s cessation.
Andorragate.com also provides an extensive list of key individuals involved in undermining the bank.
